George Papanikolaou's big week headlined a busy stretch for Haverhill High School fall sports, with wins for football, boys soccer and girls swimming.
HAVERHILL --
HIGH SCHOOL -- Haverhill High School football improved to 2-0 this season, and senior George Papanikolaou was named a Boston Globe Player of the Week on September 26, for a performance that, according to a Student Council report delivered to the School Committee on September 24, included two interceptions. The boys soccer team posted a conference win over Central Catholic for its first victory of the season. The girls swim team won its first two meets, following what the report called the program's best season in school history last year. The crew team competed at River Ruckus. Roughly 400 student-athletes are competing across nine fall sports at the high school this year, and renovations at Haverhill Stadium, including new turf and a new netting system, with the parking lot freshly paved and lined, are nearing completion, the Student Council told the committee.
YOUTH LEAGUES -- Haverhill Youth Soccer says its season is "starting soon," with programs including TOT Soccer for 3-year-olds, a Development program for Pre-K through grade 4, and a Travel program for grades 3-8 that competes in the Essex County Youth Soccer Association. The organization also said tryout details for the Town Select League are "coming soon."
