Haverhill Council Backs Local Veteran's Search for a Lifesaving Kidney Donor

HAVERHILL — March 25, 2025 — Haverhill City Council amplifies local veteran Tom Bradley's search for a living kidney donor. Councilors Mitcheson and McGonagle brought Bradley's brother Gary and other family members before the council Tuesday to raise awareness of "Tom's Kidney Crusade," a grassroots campaign using yard signs, bumper stickers, and flyers to recruit potential donors. Tom Bradley, who joined remotely and is undergoing home dialysis four times a day, has end-stage renal disease and is listed at four transplant centers; all donor testing is covered by his insurance. Gary Bradley cited organdonor.gov data showing roughly 90,000 Americans were on the kidney waiting list as of September 2024, while only about 27,000 transplants were performed in 2023. Council members agreed to distribute up to six yard signs and flyers through city offices, and a QR code on the family's materials links directly to a free, confidential screening questionnaire at the University of Tennessee Transplant Center.
